Discipleship

Christianity without discipleship is always Christianity without Christ.
--Dietrich Bonhoeffer

The Great Commission is Christ's instruction to the church to make disciples of all nation not just converts.

We live in an age where the "I" is often louder than everything else and this can sometimes affect how the church reach the lost. At its extreme, it results in the "Christian" life being chopped and packaged till its skewed to a "whats in it for me?" deal. Therein lies the difference between "us living for God" and "God living for us".

From the Cat and Dog Theology Team:
The average Christian while saying he lives his life for God is actually living his life to get from birth to death in the safest, softest, easiest and most comfortable fashion possible -- and often just uses God to keep him safe, soft, easy and comfortable - and to keep the difficulties, trials, tragedies and adversities away.

Let us move from "Me-ology" to "Theology".

Discipleship Materials (for Individual or Group Studies)
The following materials are from Follow Me Manual which is a study on 15 qualities of a disciple and the unifying theme across the 15 qualities are boldness and brokenness.

While it may seem paradoxical, true follwers of Jesus are broken, in that they have surrendered any pretense of their own righteousness, and recognized their total dependence upon God. Having done so, and continuing to acknowledge this dependence, true disciples are made bold, not in their own strength but because of him whom they serve.

The fifteen qualities that are elaborated upon are:

  1. Teachability
  2. Flexibility
  3. Humility
  4. Compassion
  5. Integrity
  6. Selflessness
  7. Intensity
  8. Courage
  9. Dependency
  10. Transparency
  11. Contentment
  12. Trustworthiness
  13. Accountability
  14. Alertness
  15. Servant hood
